Prem Uppaluru

President & Chief Executive Officer

Prem brings to Transera his 25 years of experience in the telecommunications and networking industry and his keen entrepreneurial instincts. Prior to joining Transera, Prem was Executive Vice President, Voice Portal Solutions at Genesys, where he was responsible for strategic direction and development of the company's Voice Platform and Managed Service solutions. As a result of his efforts, the Genesys Voice Portal products were awarded the top ranking in worldwide market leadership from the Gartner Group for completeness of business vision and ability to deliver compelling value to the marketplace. Prem joined Genesys in mid-2002 when the company he co-founded, Telera, was acquired by Genesys and its parent company, Alcatel. While at Telera, Prem served as Chief Executive Officer, and was the driving force behind the company's success in the emerging VoiceXML platform and solutions market. Prior to co-founding Telera, Prem co-founded VOIS Corporation where he served as Chief Executive Officer. Before launching into his entrepreneurial efforts, Prem held Vice President and General Manager positions at Novell. He also served as Vice President of Engineering at Fluent and Samsung Software America. Prem also held engineering management positions with Bell Labs and Bellcore during his tenure in telecommunications, network management, multimedia and telephony. Prem holds a Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science from the University of Texas at Austin. He received his masters and undergraduate degrees in Electrical Engineering from IIT Bombay.


Jim Swartz

General Partner, Accel

Jim Swartz has been active in venture capital since the early 1970's. Experienced in the operating needs of young companies, he enjoys working with start-up teams defining new industries. He served as a Director for over forty successful companies and has been closely involved as lead investor with industry pioneering firms including Avici Systems, BroadBand Technologies, FastForward/Inktomi, FVC.com, Illustra/Informix, Medical Care America, Netopia, PictureTel, Polycom, Remedy Corporation, and Ungermann-Bass. Other current private company directorships include Gen3 Partners, InGenuity Systems, MetraTech, and Riverbed Technology. In addition, Jim is working closely with the Accel Europe team as a founder/mentor of Accel's European business. Before founding Accel Partners, Jim was founding General Partner of Adler & Company, which he started with Fred Adler in 1978 after his tenure as a Vice President of Citicorp Venture Capital. Earlier in his career Jim worked as a management consultant, entering the venture capital industry in 1972. Active in industry affairs, Jim is a former Director and Chairman of the National Venture Capital Association and a former President of the New York Venture Capital Forum. He is a graduate of Harvard University with a concentration in Engineering Sciences and Applied Physics, and holds an M.S. in Industrial Administration from Carnegie Mellon University.


Oren Zeev

Partner, Apax Partners

Oren Zeev is a partner of Apax Partners IT/Telecom Group, with extensive experience in investing in areas such as Internet applications, digital media, and wireless. With over a decade of experience with the firm, Oren has successfully completed deals in the United States, Europe, and Israel, and maintains a broad, cross-border investment perspective. Previous investments include Butterfly (acquired by TI), Native Networks (acquired by Alcatel), and Tescom (IPO). Oren is a member of the Israel Venture Network, an organization that focuses on increasing Israel's national competitiveness through the venture community. In addition to his role in Transera, Oren is currently a director of Audible, Inc. [Nasdaq: ADBL] and Mobixell Networks. Prior to joining Apax Partners in 1995, Oren was a research staff member at the IBM Israel Science and Technology Center. At IBM, Oren was a member of the founding team of the VLSI Design Center, where he managed several significant research and development projects. Oren holds an MBA with distinction from INSEAD and a BS cum laude in electrical engineering from the Technion Institute of Technology in Haifa, Israel.


Sanjay Subhedar

General Partner, Storm Ventures

In addition to Transera, Sanjay also sits on the boards of Anchor Bay Technologies and Sierra Monolithics. Prior to founding Storm Ventures in October 2000, Sanjay was at E-TEK Dynamics, Inc. (fiber optic component manufacturer) since December 1997, serving most recently as its Chief Operating Officer/Chief Financial Officer. Sanjay played a key role in E-TEK's 1998 IPO, its merger with JDS Uniphase in 2000, and its growth from 400 to over 5000 employees in less than three years. Previously, Sanjay served as Chief Financial Officer for StrataCom, Inc. from its inception in 1986 until its merger with Cisco Systems in 1996. Following StrataCom's merger with Cisco Systems, he served as Vice President of Cisco's WAN business unit until October 1997. Sanjay earned a B.S. degree from the University of Bombay, India and an M.B.A. from Indiana University.
